Carpet can be an excellent choice of flooring for almost every room of a home, with various styles and types catering to almost all needs.

The benefit of carpet is that it provides warmth, comfort and sound insulation for your home. There are different types of carpet materials and styles to suit your preferences and needs.

Here are some of the various types of carpet:

  • Wool carpet: Wool is a natural fibre that is durable, soft and resilient. It can retain heat and regulate moisture, making it suitable for all seasons. Wool carpet also has natural stain resistance and flame retardance. Wool carpet is available in various colours, patterns and textures, such as loop, twist and velvet. Wool carpet is also more resistant to flattening due to the natural bounce back qualities of the fibre.
  • Polypropylene carpet: Polypropylene is a synthetic fibre that is affordable, easy to clean and resistant to fading and staining. It can mimic the look and feel of natural fibres, such as wool. Polypropylene carpet is ideal for high-traffic areas, such as hallways and living rooms.
  • Loop carpet: Loop carpet is made of yarns that are looped on the surface of the backing. It has a textured appearance and a low profile, which makes it durable and resistant to wear and tear. Loop carpet can be level or multi-level, creating different patterns and effects. Loop carpet is suitable for casual and contemporary spaces, such as family rooms and home offices. It is also a particular popular choice for high traffic areas such as halls and stairs as it is unlikely to show much if any flattening for a long period of time.
  • Twist carpet: Twist carpet is made of yarns that are twisted tightly together to create a textured surface, and therefore is the most common type of carpet. It has a high pile that is soft and springy underfoot. Twist carpet can hide footprints and vacuum marks well, making it ideal for bedrooms and lounges. Twist carpet comes in a variety of colours and styles, such as plain, heathered and flecked.
